The Good. The Bad. And the Ugly.

And now, it’s time for another episode of “The Good. The Bad. And the Ugly.” It is proudly brought to you by the American political establishment, in conjunction with the pack of moronic fuckwits who enable it (and we can include the American people in that mix).

Warren continues to be one of “the good”

There’s no question about the fact that Elizabeth Warren continues to live up to her billing. The woman simply isn’t messing around. She was elected to do a job, and she’s doing it no matter who she pisses off. I like that attitude. So far, she is beholding to nobody but the American people. If we had about 500 more Elizabeth Warrens in public office, there’s no telling what we could get done. Warren took Eric Holder to task over “too big to fail” after he made this inane statement:

“I am concerned that the size of some of these institutions becomes so large that it does become difficult for us to prosecute them when we are hit with indications that if you do prosecute, if you do bring a criminal charge, it will have a negative impact on the national economy, perhaps even the world economy.”

Check her out in action.

Warren also took a strong stand on gun control before even being sworn in, stating that she planned to sign on immediately to the now dead-in-the-water-thank-you-Harry Reid assault weapons ban. But I’ve got to tell you, she was really rolling at the annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast in South Boston where she took a shot at just about everybody. With John Kerry flying across the globe as the new Secretary of State and his seat up for grabs (go Ed Markey!), Warren is now the senior Senator from Massachusetts. Here’s what she had to say on that topic: “To tell you truth, I’ve considered myself the senior senator ever since Howie Carr called me Granny. Thank you, Howie.” She also leveled her sarcasm at her favorite target, Wall Street. According to Warren, “This is the day we remember St. Patrick, who legend has it drove the snakes out of Ireland. Unfortunately, too many of them went to Wall Street.” There is no question that she’s one of the most prized possessions we have in the Senate.  Warren is not interested in being demure and knowing her place. She’s not interested in the fact that she’s new to this stuff and the brass would like her to tone it down. That’s not why she was elected, and she knows it.

Do you all have your eyes wide shut?

Don’t misinterpret me. I know how horrific the Republican party is. At present, it is, simply put, the most obstructionist, evil, vicious, ass backwards, bigoted party in American history. Yes, I know it wasn’t always that way. But it is today and it shows no signs of changing anytime soon. I get it. That’s the one and only reason I voted for Barack Obama. Sorry, you Obamabots, I’m not sold on him either (but we’ll get to that later in this piece).

Today, I’m speaking to my fellow LGBTQ Americans about marriage equality. As we watch the Supreme Court with anticipation, awaiting its ruling on Prop 8 and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), let’s open our eyes and realize that our progress toward equality is being impeded on both sides of the political aisle. There are nine (yes, count them 9) Democrats who do not support marriage equality.  I will list them here: Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) Sen. Heidi Heitcamp (D-ND) Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA) Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) Sen. Tim Johnson (D-SD) Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-IN) Sen. Mark Pryor (D-AR) Originally, Sen. Kay Hagan (D-NC) was on this list. However, on Wednesday, she expressed her support for same-sex marriage.

During election season, I got a ton of emails about how “progressive” Joe Donnelly and Heidi Heitkamp are. Let’s face one clear fact: If you are not on board with same-sex marriage, you are not a “progressive” in any sense of the word. Plain and simple, these two Democratic candidates were simply better choices than their Republican counterparts.

Any candidate on the Democratic side of the aisle who does not “come around” on this issue must be targeted for replacement when his or her term is up just as we target GOP candidates. They don’t get a break simply because they are Democrats.

By the same token, Barack Obama is not a “progressive” simply because he has come out in favor of marriage equality. In fact, he needed the support of the LGBTQ community to win reelection and he knew it. I have said it many times: We have Joe Biden to thank for Obama “evolving” on this issue. If he had not gone on Charlie Rose and told the planet that he has no problem with gay marriage, I don’t believe Obama would have supported it as quickly as he did. There simply was no political consequence for Obama by the time he “evolved” on the issue. There would have been a bigger consequence if he had not.

This is a serious WTF? And it’s ugly.

No matter how bad the Democrats are and, make no mistake about it, they are absolutely nothing to write home about, there is nobody worse then the present crop of GOP public servants. You have seriously got to wonder about these morons (and I think that’s an insult to morons everywhere, actually). They can hold as many mind melds as they want about how to improve their standing with America’s minority groups, but with asshats like Rep. Don Young shooting off his big fat mouth, those strategy sessions are meaningless.

He was recently interviewed by an Alaska radio reporter where he said, “We used to hire 50-60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes.” He was talking about his family’s farm. And the “wetbacks” were the Mexican immigrants who used to cross the Rio Grande into the United States. Young just doesn’t get why everyone is so offended by the term “wetbacks.” Really? This isn’t the first time Young has opened his mouth and insert his foot either. The same week he was publicly insulting Latinos, Young attended a public rally at the state capitol where, according to the Anchorage Daily News, he “appeared to advise people to drink alone to reduce the risk of domestic violence.”  Wow. Just when you think it can’t get any uglier, read on.

This is a serious WTF? And it’s even uglier than the above story.

By now, you must have heard about the Steubenville (OH) rapists and their enablers. If you haven’t, then you’ve been hiding in a cave somewhere and you need to poke your damned heads out.  In a nutshell, on August 11, 2012, an unconscious high school girl was repeatedly violate by her peers…high school boys who were also football players. She was transported to various parties, where she was undressed, photographed, sexually assaulted and orally penetrated. She was also penetrated by other students’ fingers. This isn’t just fun, folks. It’s rape. And it doesn’t matter if she was incapacitated because she was drunk or given a date-rape drug or both. This assault was also Tweeted and photos were posted on various social media. Those who participated in this aspect of the crime should also be considered guilty.

Law enforcement was lax in its investigation and prosecution of this crime. Period. There seems to be some kind of “pass” for boys who play sports and get carried away in this country and, frankly, it’s disgusting. For the record, it’s not okay. Even more disgusting is the fact that, after the boys were found “guilty” by a judge (one might be incarcerated until the age of 24. Oh my.), CNN lamented on air about how their “promising” lives had been ruined by the verdict. Of course, CNN didn’t mention the pain and suffering of the sixteen-year-old victim.

As I’ve said before, there’s something seriously wrong in this nation, particularly when it comes to its attitudes toward girls and women. It’s beyond sick. Juvenile offenders or not, these morons and their cell phone enablers should have gotten a stiffer punishment. Until that happens, rape will continue to be a “sport” to these entitled, spoiled little brats.
