Since I’m an LGBT American and a lot of the focus of this blog is on LGBT civil rights, I thought it only fitting that we add a page highlighting gay bashers. There are plenty out there, so I expect to be pretty busy. If you’d like to suggest any additions, please write me at

The New Family Structures Study

There is not just one culprit here. There’s a literal posse of culprits on this study. There’s one thing you learn when you’re an LGBT American, people just love to study you. This latest right-wing intellectual gem will tell you that gay people are basically unfit to be parents. What the study doesn’t tell you that it is authored by notorious right-winger Mark Regenerus of the Department of Sociology and Population Center at the University of Texas, and funded by the anti-gay Witherspoon Institute and The Bradley Foundation. The one thing you notice if you take a look at their web sites is the focus on morality. They talk morality when it comes to sexual orientation, but apparently morality doesn’t figure into other discussions, like war and oppression. In addition, the manner in which the study was conducted was seriously flawed.

In response to this moronic piece of research, the American Psychological Association has posted a rebuttal on its website which reads in part:

“On the basis of a remarkably consistent body of research on lesbian and gay parents and their children, the American Psychological Association (APA) and other health professional and scientific organizations have concluded that there is no scientific evidence that parenting effectiveness is related to parental sexual orientation. That is, lesbian and gay parents are as likely as heterosexual parents to provide supportive and healthy environments for their children.”

Frankly, we’re tired of being studied and maligned. My suggestion is that they spend some time studying the anti-gay predilections of the conservative movement. My theory is that they are all self-loathing closeted homosexuals. Any takers?

Peter LaBarbera (President, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality), Shirley Phelps-Roper (Westboro Baptist Church), Terry Jones (Dove World Outreach Center), Paul Cameron (Family Research Institute)

I could not resist this video. It’s 12+ minutes of the most absurd rhetoric I’ve ever heard, the most rabid coming from Shirley Phelps-Roper. I don’t need to write a lot of words here. Just watch.

The Youngest Bigot on the Planet?

The holy attendees at the Apostolic Truth Tabernacle Church in Greensburg, Indiana, give a standing ovation to a 4-year-old who sings, “I know the Bible’s right, somebody’s wrong…ain’t no homos gonna make it to heaven.” There’s something very, very wrong when adults work to create bigotry and hatred in a child. It’s easy to dislike the child, but it’s important to remember that children aren’t born this way. They are created. See the video below.

Fred Phelps (Pastor, Westboro Baptist Church)

What would a Gay Bashers page be without Fred Phelps? Fred’s God hates. He especially hates fags. Phelps and his mindless minions picket funerals of LGBT Americans who have died from AIDS and other causes (doesn’t much matter what the cause of death is). Phelps and his followers run a web site called Below is a hidden video taken during a Westboro Baptist church service in 2008.

Kirk Cameron (Former Child Actor)

Kirk must have missed the limelight, so he opted to become a Christian right-wing nut case and go on CNN to  declare that gay marriage is “unnatural, detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization.” Yet, he claims to hate nobody and love everybody. Funny thing about right-wing Christians: They have no idea how to show that love. Kirk also belongs under Asshats Anonymous, as you’ll see by the video below, but we’ll keep it to one listing for now. Don’t want to give him too much exposure.
